I never use OMG.  I’m never really at a loss for words.  However, today my friend Jenn gave me my solstice gift/bonus for my work at EOT this year.  It was  a bag of wheat hulls.  I was confused.  She then informed me that I could turn those into whole wheat flour using my brand new VITAMIX!!!!!!  I just sat there, stunned.  I’ve wanted one for EVER.  They can do pretty much anything any vegan/vegetarian/raw foodie/anybody who likes to eat would want.  Soy Milk?  Done.  Almond butter?  done.  bread?  done.  OMG.  Seriously.  Oh.  And I forgot.  Not only did I get a VITAMIX, but I also got the dry blade attachment.  Which is essentially its own blender.  So I have one blender to make wet stuff and one to make dry stuff.  That’s how fancy this thing is.  It also required me to completely rearrange my kitchen.  Jason and I decided we need a new house.  You know its a heavy duty appliance when it prompts you to buy a new home.

New Zombies!

I’ve got a few new zombies up on the site!

The Beginning of a New Decade

1 12 2010

Jason informed me the other day that we are going to be entering a new decade.  I never thought about that until he said something.  I mentioned it to a few people and most found it depressing.  Why?  I think its great we’ve made it through this decade. I can’t speak for anybody but myself, but I’ve accomplished a lot.  I graduated from high school and from college – I received my B.S. in Biology.  I was published in a scientific journal.  I started an organization for local artists and crafters.  I started making and selling my own art.  I moved out on my own.  I have a full time job.  I bought a car.  I traveled to Salem, MA; Twice!  I met and started dating my boyfriend of almost 3 years, Jason.  However, my parents got divorced and I haven’t talked to my father (or that side of the family, really) since.  My mother remarried and moved an hour away.  My great grandmother passed away.  My cousin got engaged.  My friend Ashley got engaged.  My friend Kate had a baby.  Wow, as I’m typing this out I’m realizing how much shit really happens in 10 years.  And I know I haven’t even really covered everything.  I lost my virginity in there somewhere too…. got totally wasted for the first time.  Had the cops called to a party I was throwing because we were to loud.  I went vegan.  Jeez…. What did you do in the last ten years?

Lets Start Over

28 11 2010

Hello!  Thanks for stopping by and reading this.  Guess what?!  I’m not very good at keeping up with my blog.  Hmmm, that’s not to cool, is it?  I apologize.  So, lets start over.  I’m not going to try to keep this updated every day with food I’m making.  I thought that would be fun and easy and…. Surprise! Its not.  With the holiday’s fast approaching, my ZombieSocks becoming more in demand for Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah and all the other wonderful wintertime holidays, my family getting together, parties, baking, my shoppe…. I just don’t have time to cook/bake/make food every day like I did 2 months ago.  Who would have thought?  So, I”m going to start just talking about me.  What I’m up to with the socks, the shoppe, the Cleveland Craft Coalition, whats new with used books (there’s an oxymoron…) what my friends are up to, funny stories, my dog… you get the idea.  I think this blog will really take shape then, become way easier to maintain and keep up to date.  Fear not, dear reader!  I will continue to add recipes and pictures of the delicious awesome I prepare in my kitchen, but I’m not going to fret over it like I was doing before.   So, lets get started…

Last Friday, the Cleveland Craft Coalition opened up our Holiday Handmade Shoppe!  Yay!   The grand opening was fantastic  and we had people milling about and streaming in as soon as it hit 6pm!  We all had  a blast, tasty treats were devoured and handmade arts and crafts ruled the day! (as they should.)  Our shop will be open through the rest of the year, so if you are in Lakewood, Ohio, between now and Dec 30, you should stop by! 1387 Sloane Ave!

Also, today through Monday (Nov 29) which is Cyber Monday, I’ll be offering FREE SHIPPING on ALL ZombieSocks orders!!  Get your holiday shopping done early and from the comforts of home!  And you don’t have to pay for me to mail them to you!  What could be better?  In addition to all of the ZS madness, I, along with several other lovely members of the Cleveland Craft Coalition will be hosting our Holiday Show at Bela Dubby on Madison Ave in Lakewood this Saturday, Dec 4 from 12-4pm.  Be there or be an uninteresting geometrical shape.

Thats pretty much it at this point, but, like I said, I’m going to try to keep this updated more regularly!  Please stop by again!  Thanks for reading this!

Happy Samhain!

31 10 2010

What a wonderful day!  Last night I went to a party with some friends and had a little more than I should have to drink – but really, Magic Hat beer and homemade Sangria, can  you blame me?  Today I spent my morning/afternoon preserving the last of my harvest.  I made another batch of sauce, froze the last of my peppers and green tomatoes and cleaned out my fridge/freezer.  I smudged my home, ridding it of all negative energy, and now I’m waiting for my bread to rise so I can fill my home with the scent of baking bread and cinnamon!  Tonight my friends and I will be congregating on my front porch to pass out candy and scary books to kids then moving the festivities indoors for some brews, tarot and good times!  I hope you enjoy this blessed day I certainly will be!  Happy Samhain!  Blessed Be!

Coffee Break Muffins and my Kitchen

25 10 2010

I worked all day today, then had to go grocery shopping, make dinner and take a shower.  I also had to squeeze in time to bake muffins so we’d have something to eat for breakfast this week.  Enter Sarah Kramer and Tanya Barnard.  Using their lovely creation In the Garden of Vegan I found their recipe for Coffee Break Muffins.  I suggest you buy their book and make these muffins.  They are fantastic!  And light!  And just a hint of sweet!  However, other than the applesauce, I’m going to go out on a limb and say they don’t have much in the way of nutritional value.  But that’s okay, that’s what a coffee break is for, right?  I’ve also included some pix of my kitchen.  I LOVE my kitchen.  Even if it is small….and don’t worry.  I actually do have a refrigerator – we just keep it in the hallway; thus giving the illusion our kitchen is bigger than it actually is…

All is Right With the World.

20 10 2010

So, yesterday we got our stove fixed!  Thank Goddess!  It appears I tripped the fuse… Hmmm…., while I’m thrilled beyond words that my stove is back and functional and I can resume preparing delisciousness in my kitchen, it saddens me that my oven/house finds the oven and 2 burners running at the same time to much to handle.  Last night I made fried green tomatoes, pan seared seitan and mashed potatoes.  I had to do everything in shifts for fear of tripping the circuit again.  Of course, it wasn’t until after I had wiped my plate clean did I remember to take photos – at which time there was no point.  I swear I’ll get better at this….

In other news, my wonderful friend Willow bought me a gift certificate to Cinnaholic!  A vegan cinnamon roll shop out of Berkley, CA.  I can’t wait to use it!  If you have a minute and even if you don’t, find time! – check out their website I have no idea what I want to order, the possibilities are mind blowing!
